"Candle Flames"
映像インスタレーション（16mm カラーリバーサルフィルムに多重露光で撮影し、デジタル化して段ボール箱に投影）16mmフィルムで撮影された映像が、箱の中に投影されたインスタレーション。この映像の中で最も印象的なシーンは、一本のキャンドルが別のキャンドルに火を灯そうとする場面だ。実際には多重露光で撮影されているため、これら二つのキャンドルは同じ場所や時間には存在しない。しかし、フィルムという物質の上では、この二つの瞬間は物理的に重なり合っている。また、1 本のフィルムが終わる時に黄色から白へと画面全体の色調がホワイトアウトする様子は、一瞬これ自体が映像であるという事実を超えて、投影された紙箱自体が燃える様子を想起させる。異なる時間や遠くの場所に手を伸ばし、触れるように表現することを試みた。
Single-channel video installation (16mm colour reversal film with multiple exposure, transferred to digital and projected onto a cardboard box).
This is a film installation shot on 16mm film and projected inside a box. The most striking scene depicts a candle attempting to light another. In reality, because the image is created through multiple exposure, the two candles never exist in the same place or at the same time. However, on the film as a material, these two moments physically overlap. When the reel comes to an end, the image whites out, shifting from yellow to white. For a brief moment, this goes beyond the image itself and creates the illusion that the box is actually burning. This work attempts to express the act of reaching across different times and distant places, as if trying to touch them.
